Brrrrrrr.

As true Tasmanians Bryan and I have been sporting shorts, singlets and thongs for the past month, much to the fascination of some of the people on our tour bus who hail from warmer cities like Perth and joke that we’re slightly insane. Some of them think that 25C is a ``mild`` day requiring jeans and a jacket and don’t realise that for us, 25C is close to a heatwave!

But, when we arrived in Budapest, on a grey, rainy 18C day, with wind whipping along the Danube, even we had to admit defeat and reach for jumpers. The gloomy weather was a big shock after living it up in 30C temperatures in China and Greece, as well as the 25C + weather we experienced throughout the rest of Europe.

Despite the chill (and the urgent need to dart into the nearest souvenir shop and buy an overpriced umbrella) our enthusiasm was not dampened, and Budapest turned out to be one of the most beautiful and enjoyable cities we have visited so far.

By day it is a great place to wander about and enjoy some shopping in the local shops and markets while soaking up the splendour of the many ornate buildings, bridges and churches.
By night it is even more amazing, as our river cruise proved.
