The only way is UP!

Rome was all about queues, but in France the focus is on stairs.

Signs are everywhere boasting about the number of stairs at each attraction.

There are 280 steps to the top of the Arc de Triomph...


Then there's 387 winding stairs to the top of Notre Dame (and no, for those of you who are wondering, we didn't see the famous hunchback, but the gargoyles were home).



Add to that the many flights of stairs you go up and down at the Louvre...


And all the steps in the parks and gardens...


Plus the million, trillion, billion stairs to the top of the Eiffel Tower (1665 actually), which is why we cheated and decided to take the elevator instead!
